In June of 2011 the Canadian and I sail over to the UK on the Queen Mary 2!  Well, let me back up a bit...

Just over a year ago, a couple of things happened.  I was accepted to two different Ph.D. programs in International Development and the Canadian received a job offer to move to the UK as a consultant.  We had a choice, the Ph.D. or the job.  After a lot of discussion, we decided to move forward with the Ph.D. and let the job go.  It was a tough decision since the Canadian and I have always wanted to live abroad, but, the Canadian was very happy with his current consulting position and I was ready to take a leap.  We did a mini-texpatriation for 8 months to New Orleans (which we will finish up in a few weeks) for me to do my coursework.  This past summer the company who originally offered the Canadian the London job called again -- they still wanted him.  So we talked about it and negotiated a few things (i.e. allowing me to finish my coursework) and so, the Canadian accepted the job, and thus began the adventure. In a few weeks we repatriate back to Austin for 6 months before moving to London.  The Canadian will actually be moving a few months sooner than I will, but then he returns home and we will take the QM2 in style over to the UK.  (We're also bringing my mom -- MomE -- over on the QM2 for fun and then she'll stay a few days just to see us settled in.)

So, this blog will chronicle our preparation for moving, the move itself, and our time abroad (and I reserve the right to not talk about any of those things if I don't want to -- it's my party here after all)...and maybe also our next Texpat experience after London!  Enjoy!
